“The philosophy behind integrative medicine is a focus on all stages and aspects of an individual’s care, placing the patient at the center and making individuals responsible for and involved in their own health. The physical, mental, social, spiritual, environmental, and other states of being must be considered to ensure that patients receive the highest quality and most comprehensive and coordinated care possible.”

The Emerging Field of Integrative Medicine

The field of Integrative Medicine is defined by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health as the combination of " mainstream medical therapies and alternative, or complementary therapies for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness."

Studies over the past decade have shown that Integrative Medicine is becoming increasingly popular.

Unfortunately there remain many misunderstandings regarding the benefits and pitfalls of this type of medicine. There is a strong need to educate the public and medical professionals about Integrative Medicine. While there are many areas in which it excels, there are other times which Integrative Medicine (IM) is not appropriate. Integrative Medicine treatments are not usually covered by insurance companies. Thus there is a large underserved population that never has the chance to benefit from Integrative Medicine therapies.

The IMF exists to help fill these voids
